It may not be popular to publish a book review because most academics focus on writing original research papers, book chapters, and review papers. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to prepare a book review manuscript.
Step 1: We should choose the newest book with the appropriate topic suiting our field. Enter the keywords on the reputable publisher websites-e.g., Elsevier or ScienceDirect, Springer Link, IoP, or Routledge. The following figure 1 indicates an example of book searching on Springer using a keyword for hydrogel.

Step 2: We have to make sure that there are no other authors who have written reviews of the mentioned book. Use Google Scholar or a publisher's search engine (for example, Elsevier or ScienceDirect, Springer Link, Taylor & Francis or Sage Publications).
Step 3: Then we choose the appropriate journal and contact the editor. Figure 2 shows an example of how we propose a book review to the editor.

Step 4: If the editor is interested in our proposal, we will get an invitation via email (figure 3) and provide us the book from the publisher for free (figure 4).

Step 5: After getting the original book file, we start writing the review by considering the following points:
Pay attention to the duration of the book review given by the editor, the number of words, and the focus of the discussion according to the aim and scope of the journal.
The first paragraph explicitly states for whom this book is intended, the capacity of the author or editor, and an outline of what is discussed in the book.
The following paragraphs cover the essential points of each chapter and relate the discussion to the scope of the journal (we need to avoid rewriting sub-chapter titles).
The last paragraph concludes whether this book is worth recommending to readers or not.
Step 6: After completing a book review, contact the editor for revisions and comments.
